Walking Rehabilitation

At Heads Up, we specialise in helping people regain safe, efficient, and confident walking. Whether you're learning to walk again, improving your current walking pattern, or managing challenges like balance or coordination — we’re here to support your recovery.

Walking is complex and requires multiple components to integrate with one another —muscle strength, balance, joint stability, sensory feedback, and coordination. When one or more of these systems is affected by neurological damage, walking becomes a challenge.

Our walking rehabilitation sessions focus on restoring the components needed for safe and efficient walking. This process will be tailored to the individual’s medical condition, functional level, and specific goals. Depending on your needs, treatment may involve:

  • Biomechanical analysis – stance, swing, heel strike, toe-off
  • Lower limb strengthening
  • Core strengthening
  • Postural alignment and trunk control
  • Balance training and stability exercises
  • Sensory-motor integration
  • Gait re-education, including step placement and symmetry
  • Orthotic provision
  • Practice with walking aids
  • Navigation of stairs, curbs, uneven surfaces, obstacle negotiation
  • Dual-task walking – e.g., walking while talking or carrying an item
  • Adaptation to real-life environments

Our goal is to help you walk more naturally, safely, and efficiently — whether it’s a few steps indoors or navigating the community independently.
